Nikola Lutz

Prof. Nikola Lutz has made a name for herself as a saxophonist for new and experimental music. She has premiered numerous works by composers such as Alexander Grebtschenko, Maximilian Marcoll, Fernando Munizaga, Ying Wang, Remmy Canedo and many others. By commissioning compositions, she inspired many composers to create new literature for saxophone, thus actively contributing to the aesthetic development of the instrument. At the HMDK Stuttgart she holds a professorship for classical saxophone.

As an improviser, she elicits the most improbable sounds not only from the saxophone but also from exotic wind instruments such as the tárogató or sarrusophone. She has played with international greats of the improvisation scene such as Peter Kowald or Sainkho Namtchylak. Currently she improvises in the duo YonX with the Chilean double bass player César Bernal.

Tours have taken her as a soloist to North and South America, India, Korea, Russia, China and European countries, among others. Currently she can be heard on a portrait CD by Annesley Black (KAIROS).
